Doctors gifted Oliver Morgan – a new life, after rescuing the baby boy born with practically no blood, post a lifesaving transfusion. A rare medical condition known as Vasa Previa, drained his body of nearly every drop of blood, while in the mother’s womb.

Initially, Oliver was feared to be stillborn, as the doctors could not find a heartbeat for 25 minutes. An extra vein had developed in his mother’s womb, which burst 37½ weeks into the pregnancy period, following which she was rushed to the Maidstone General Hospital, U.K. An emergency Caesarian section was carried out on Oliver’s mother, leading to his birth at 5.12 AM. He weighed 6lb 1oz. After attempts to resuscitate him he was given a blood transfusion pumped into the still-attached umbilical cord, at 5.37 AM the first heartbeat was detected and as he was given more blood he grew stronger. However, Oliver is now, a healthy 15-month-old toddler, living with his parents Katy and Jeff.

The boy’s mother, Katy, a publishing executive in Maidstone, Kent, U.K, who was anaesthetized and unaware of the drama, expressed, “Doctors said it was one of the most amazing recoveries they’d ever seen. Oliver had no blood, no heartbeat and looked stillborn – but somehow they got him back.”

She also added, “Oliver’s birth was so traumatic that I haven’t been able to bring myself to tell his story till now. He was born dead with no blood in his body – but now he’s sitting here smiling at me. The doctors literally brought him back to life and I will never be able to thank them enough for this wonderful gift.”

As per reports, the doctors employed a unique mechanism to take care of Oliver. They transferred him to a special care baby unit where his body temperature was lowered to 33°C, in order to save him from potential permanent injury. This they did by forcing blood to flow away from his skin and redirecting it towards his brain and heart. Gradually, his temperature was raised in the following three days, to the normal 37°C, by half a degree a day. In eleven days time, Oliver was well enough to be taken home to start family life with his parents and seven-year-old brother Jack.
