Combination drugs for Diabetes and BP

Jaipur, India: Free drug distribution centres in Rajasthan’s government hospitals will soon, make available – combination drugs for diabetes and blood pressure. This would facilitate their treatment for the said medical conditions, with minimal drugs.

Earlier, the doctors had to prescribe over 8 drugs which the patients could not avail, all at once. In order to provide suitable assistance to the suffering patients, Rajasthan Medical Services Corporation (RMSC) has prepared a list of 62 combination drugs for various common diseases including stomach ailments. The list also includes medicines like vitamin B complex, calcium tablets, anti-fungal drugs and mouthwash.

The managing director of RMSC, Dr. Samit Sharma said, “We have placed order for 62 combination drugs and soon the drug companies will supply the medicines which will be made available at the drug distribution counters”.

According to the claims made by some officials, as of now there are about 300 drugs that have been made available at these drug- distribution counters; but most of them are single-salt medicines. They also said that soon, they would have supplies of a combination of Metformin and Glimepiride, for diabetes treatment; in contrast to the previously available, single-salt diabetes drug – Amlodin.

One of the RMSC officials also suggested that out of 62 drugs, many would be in triple combination. He conveyed, “With the availability of triple combination drugs, the patient will take only one medicine instead of three different drugs.”
